Federal Intellectual Property Services
When your secured transaction includes intellectual property (IP) collateral, National Corporate Research, Ltd. (NCR) can assist you by conducting searches of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and U.S. Copyright Office records for recorded assignments and security interests. Unlike most IP service companies, NCR’s focus is on federal due diligence IP services to complement the broad array of nationwide federal/state lien and judgment search services we offer. NCR’s IP ownership and assignment searches provide the missing piece to your due diligence puzzle to help ensure you have all the bases covered.
Making your job easier:
Searches of the PTO and Copyright Office records reduce the risk of missing liens:
Intellectual property, such as patents, trademarks and copyrighted material, is increasingly used as collateral to secure loans. While the typical UCC and lien searches you conduct for secured transactions will reveal liens that affect many types of IP collateral, you could be missing an important piece of the puzzle if you don’t conduct additional searches with the PTO and Copyright Office. Get a more complete picture by contacting NCR when you need:
- Ownership Searches: identify or verify registered patent/trademark/copyright assets originally owned by an entity (or by an individual for patents)
- Assignment Searches: identify or verify patent/trademark/copyright security interests assigned to or by an entity
- Patent Assignment Filings: transfer an owner's patent property rights in full or in part. If the owner's name changes, file a name change to reflect the current owner's name with the Assignment Recordation Branch of the USPTO.
- Trademark Assignement Filings: transfer an owner's rights, title, and interest in a trademark or service mark in full or in part. File a name change to reflect ownership in a trademark or service mark with the Assignment Recordation Branch of the USPTO.
NCR can also assist you with filing assignments with the PTO and the Copyright Office. A patent assignment may transfer an inventor's property rights fully or partially to another individual or company.
